Performance Biography

Kiely Griffin A native Vermonter, Griffin has been playing the flute for ten years. She has participated in many district, state, regional and national ensembles including the National Wind Ensemble at Carnegie Hall. After graduating high school in 2004 Griffin studied Flute Performance and Music Management at the Hartt School of Music in West Hartford, CT for two years. During this time she premiered Vermont composer David Gunn’s piece, the forbidden flute and competed to the finals of the Miami String Quartet competition. From 2006-2007 Griffin transitioned into Jazz flute, attending the University of Vermont. She performed at local restaurants and clubs in Burlington, VT including Nectars, Radio Bean, Parima’s and Euro Gourmet CafÈ. Griffin recently attended the Stanford Jazz Residency at Stanford University in California where she studied with Frank Wess and Taylor Egsti. Along with classical and jazz, Griffin is very involved with hip-hop music. She has played with a number of different hip-hop artists in Vermont and is a member of Burlington Factory Studios. She has performed at the venues Higher Ground and Club Metronome and on WRUV radio. Griffin has been recording tracks and opening for a variety of artists including Burnt MD, Scroll, BFS crew, Planet Asia, Devin the Dude and Soliloquists of Sound. Currently, Griffin has returned to the Hartt School and is a Music Management (see info belowe) and Jazz student at the Jackie McLean institute of Jazz. She is studying privately with Jimmy Greene and is also under the direction of Nat Reeves and Steve Davis. She is an active member and manager of the jazz and hip-hop groups under Jazz Men Records. Managment Bio

Management Bio Third year music management and jazz flute student at the Hartt School of Music in West Hartford, CT. Griffin was a member, vice president and then president of the club M.E.I.S.A (Music entertainment Industry Association). As active member of this club she helped manage two bands, creating press kits, demos, merchandise and booking gigs. She also put on the Artist project (2005 and 2006), a collaboration of selected bands who performed for positive feedback from a panel of industry professionals (including Kim Scharnberg). Griffin attended the M.E.I.S.A national conference at University of Miami, Miami FL 2005. She worked as an intern briefly at Toad’s Place in New Haven, CT (July 2006) and at the Vermont Youth Orchestra Association in Colchester, VT (fall 2006 to spring 07). Currently Griffin is member and manager for jazz and hip-hop artists under the label jazz men records (www.jazzmenrecords.com).
